Seriously quilting

I am starting a Hexagon quilt this week.  I have been cutting and cutting little pieces, which has been a very relaxing experience while watching television.  I read that this is called the English paper-piecing technique.  I need something to do with my hands while watching television and this is perfect.  I have a lot of pieces cut out, but just read about a technique where you can reuse them.  REUSE.  Isn't that the word of the year?

So my next step is to pick out my fabric.  I don't have such a large stash as many of you fab seamstresses, but I do have a good variety of colors and some patters.  I am starting with a small blanket to make sure I finish this project, so it will be a baby blanket with a pillow.  I have fabric that I like for this.  I will post photos in a few days.  It has rained so much in NYC lately that there hasn't been any light for me to take any decent photos.  I am very excited to this since I don't have to pull out my machine and can do some of the steps on the sofa and so forth.

Vampire Diaries Marathon

 

I had about six episodes from season 1 on the DVR and all of the episodes of season 2, which I just watched.  I had already seen the ones from season 1 last spring.  I was cleaning the apartment while these were on.

I never watch this network, and really can't stand shows with actors in their thirties pretending to be teenagers, but I LOVE THIS SHOW.  I'm not obsessed with vampires like the rest of the country is - although I did read the Twilight Saga before the movies came out.  I just really like the modern day story reverting back to 1865 or so.  That is something I like in any series or movie.  The writing and storyline are both pretty good, and the actors are not toooo good looking.  I wouldn't call it Sci-Fi either.  This all works for me. 

I just have two disappointments for season 2 which is they are not filming outdoors as much and not using their cast to it's full potential.  The outdoor filming gave it an edge other shows don't have.  Also, this season they are working on a storyline which focuses on a few specific characters, where last season the full cast would be in almost every episode.  I like that better.

But if you like shows with no sex, that are sort of fast paced, and pretty interesting in "folklore", not to mention Ian Sommerhalder, this is for you.

Checking in

There are quite a few new things going on in my life.  I have a love life again, and it's with the same man. We have been apart for six years. I found him on the net, and not FB. The first time we talked in six years was an incredible experience.  He lives nine hours away, and by that weekend I was there visiting his new home.  He's been there three years and loves it.  The first time we saw each other after all of this time was like we were together just the other day.  So many feelings came back.  I cannot forget why we broke up, but I just might be a little more mature and understand now. I love this man so much. We do not plan to live together for a very long time and I think the distance will show us if we really belong together.

My health is doing much better.  My ankle surgery went well.  I have recooperated as expected.  I love being able to walk without pain, or atleast that pain.  I had a complication during recovery, but have gotten through it with medication and patience.  My blood pressure soared before and during this episode but is now "like a teenager's", so my doctor says.  I also lost a little weight.  I just have to work on continuing that.

I thought I would knit and/or crochet, paint, just craft in general during my recovery period, but nothing doing.  I could not concentrate on anything, even TV.  I had about six books to read and didn't read one page the entire time.  I just couldn't do it.  I loved being at home and yearned to do anything creative, but not being able to carry a cup of water while on crutches made me angry.  When I was finally able to do something, all I could think about were the bills not getting paid.  But I'm back to work for almost six months now and things are so much better.

There are a couple of other little things that will always be there to bug me, but I'm working through all of these things with my sanity and future in mind.  I will continue to stop by all of your blogs, even when I don't comment.  And please come back here to make sure I'm still with you.  Thank you for your inspiration.  You all keep me going.

So as you can see, I'm not blond any longer. I've been coloring my hair since I was thirteen years old. I've also always had longish hair. I started cutting it short because of hormonal hair loss and migraines. But I colored it dark a couple of months ago on the spur of the moment and everyone seemed to love it. I've gotten used to it, but in my heart, I'm still blond.
