Just yesterday was the first day that I cooked, cleaned my kitchen, did some laundry and felt domestic in the last 7 weeks. It felt great! I've spent the last 7 weeks at home without being able to do anything for myself, much less for my son, my pets or my home.
So my recovery from my ankle surgery back in February has had a little set back. First off I didn't know I would still be on crutches at week 7. I've never had an operation or been on crutches so I'm new to all of this. I figured once I was off bed rest I would be rid of the crutches. I was wrong. At week 6 my doc told me everything was on track, but then we found out I have a blood clot. I didn't know what it entailed. I was so worried. So I am on two meds for this. I have to go have my blood checked twice a week. Hopefully I will be able to get rid of one of them soon.
I'm also going to Physical Therapy twice a week. My doc wanted 3 times, but the therapist suggests twice for now. I'm going to one of the best hospitals in the country (living in NYC helps) so getting into their PT facility was hard at first but they fit me in. I love the guy the assigned me and feet real confident that all will go well with this aspect of my recovery.
My swelling has gone down considerably and my doc says it will take another 6 MONTHS!!! My scar looked so scary a couple of weeks ago. But I took a real look at it yesterday and it just looks like a scar you see on TV or something. My doc says it will take another year or so for it to fade more. He doesn't want me to put anything on it at all, not even cream - but then caved and said maybe I should use vitamin E. The splint rubbed it so bad. I hated it. This boot isn't so bad, but I would rather not have anything on it at all. My PT guy says I should always have the boot on, but that will rub the scar too much. It's still too raw even though it looks healed.
I can't believe I'm going back to work in 2 weeks. I'm feeling a little anxious. In the next two weeks I will be working from home on my laptop from 10 AM to 2 PM. Then I'll be going to PT and my GP to check my blood levels - both twice a week. I'm already tired thinking about it. Then on the 3rd I go back to the office and I'll still be going to PT and checking my blood - and still on crutches because PT couldn't fit me in on time. I don't blame them, but it's going to be a pain. My doc won't want me staying home any longer because laying still is what causes clots.
But I want to emphasize that I feel so much better after all I did yesterday and even today. I'm thoroughly exhausted. And it made me fall asleep early last night. But I needed that. This morning I was in the middle of making breakfast when my son walked in from a weekend away. He finished up for me so I could take a load off. I look forward to being able to cook a few times in the next couple of weeks.
I was especially hoping to use my time at hope to craft. That didn't happen mostly because of the crutches. I wouldn't have been able to carry supplies. Getting up to clean my hands would have been impossible. But I'm not going to dwell on it. It wasn't wasted time. I have been thinking a lot about my future and I did purge a lot of stuff. So onward and upward.
