I live in East Harlem. This is the view from my one northern facing window:
I took these shots last Sunday. It snowed from Saturday afternoon through the night. There is an empty public swimming pool between the middle and right buildings. This view is looking a little towards my left (north-north/west), when looking out of the window. The buildings in the back are Harlem and Washington Heights.
Behind these buildings is the entrance to what was once called Tri-boro bridge, renamed RFK Bridge, where you can pay a toll to go to Queens and the Bronx. You can also see the Bronx behind the trees, just past the two red brick smoke stacks. There is a river just past there - the Harlem River, which is hard to see. Click on the photo to see it better.
Here you can see the ramp from the FDR Drive Highway which runs north and south along the east side of Manhattan. Behind the ramp you can see the Bronx. Under the ramp you can see the FDR Dr and tiny spots of the river. This street is First Avenue, which ends at 125th Street. You can see much of this during the NYC Marathon.
When I take photos of out my east-facing windows I can see as far as the runways at LaGuardia Airport in Queens. I constantly see the planes land and take off.
I liked these particular photos for the clouds. When we lived in Manhattan as kids I couldn't remember a Sunday when the sun was out. Weather does change.
