I was given two tickets to a performance of Equus for tonight, Jan 20th. I was extremely happy, as I knew I would never be able to afford them myself. When my family member saw the play last week they said the theater was only about half full, but it was snowing and really cold out. Tonight it's only really cold out, and the theater seemed to be a full house. I went with a close friend/coworker. She's my movie partner.
I knew the story, more or less, but I was still moved by what I saw. I'm still referring to the story. As for the acting, Dan Rafcliffe has won Broadway.com's actor of the year for 2008, and deservedly so. Richard Griffiths is just amazing with the lengthy, sad and/or humorus speeches. I think the cast was put together well, and the scenery was very smart - and spoke volumes. We can't talk about this play without talking about the nudity, but I think people make too much of it. It is what it is. This is a sad story, well done.
