Once again Scott and I went to Florida. We drove from NY to Tampa, in one day. We left at 5:30 am and arrived at 11:45 pm. No sleeping over. When we got there I found out my paternal grandmother had fallen a few days before and had a hip replacment operation. My dad was spending a lot of time at the hospital with her. It rained everyday we were there. The pool water is solar heated so it was cold. We only made it to the beach one day, but it was glorious. I never made it to the flea markets or the Good-Will shops. I just wanted to rest on this trip. One day I went to my aunt's house. She is a quilter. She always has some kind of something there for me. We talk about sewing and crafting and so on. This time she had lunch for us and a couple of surprises for me.
One was a box of china my dad bought in Germany in 1971, that mother left behind in one of the many places she once lived in Tampa. My aunt found it and saved it for me. Since I was driving back to NY, it was the perfect time for her to give it to me. It was originally a 12 place setting of Noritake china. It has 2 rings of silver with a lace pattern on it. There are only 7 coffee cups, but most of the other items are complete. I decided I could make it an 8 place setting. The first time I looked it up I found a 4 place setting with 8 bets for $180.00. It later sold for over $200.00. I am going to buy the cases to store them, and the felt. I noticed that some of the plates were a little scratched, but I can live with that. My aunt told me I can go to Macy's and get any missing pieces if I don't find them on eBay. You can tell I've never had real china, huh?
The second thing she gave me, which she had in a storage shed in the back, was a cuckoo clock my dad also brought from Germany around 1971. He brought 2, one for us, one for my grandmother. He now has my grandmother's. Hers is in perfect condition, of course. I will be getting that one someday. In the meantime, my mother took ours in the divorce. My aunt found it and saved it for me also. It is in bad condition, but I don't care. It won't be worth the money to fix it, so I won't. But these things are the few things that remain from my infancy, thanks to my aunt.
We spent a half a week in Kissimmee and had a lot of fun there. It still rained, but there is always something to do there. Go-carts and Typhoon Lagoon. Need I say more? When we got home my mom brought over Bella.
She's about three months old.
